The Truth about Tap Water
In the western world, we’re fortunate to be able to turn on the tap and access unlimited water. However, many would question whether tap water is ultimately healthy. It may be deemed safe to drink by the World Health Organisation and other professional authorities, but ‘safe’ and ‘healthy’ are two different things. Given that it is treated with a large number of chemicals to kill bacteria and other pesky microorganisms, water running off the mains supply is vastly different to the sort found in nature – the kind found in springs and mountain streams which is rich in naturally-occurring minerals.
There are lots elements which can make their way into our water, from oestradiol, ACE inhibitors and lead traces to antibiotics, antidepressants and beta-blockers, so we’ll forego raking over old ground. Suffice to say that, with over 300 man-made chemicals having at some point been detected in British tap water, better options are available.
This is particularly the case if your tap water is fluoridated: about 10% of the UK population receive fluoridated water, including Cumbria, Cheshire, Tyneside, Northumbria, Durham, the West Midlands and most of Ireland. Indeed, many people now use a filter to eliminate not only fluoride but hardness, chlorine and other potentially dangerous toxins.
Do you really know what is in your tap water?
Tap water is safe in many places, but that doesn’t mean you’re not ingesting impurities.
Indeed, depending on where you live, you might be drinking bacteria, chemicals, and debris floating around in your municipality’s water system.
We take the safety of our water for granted, but accidents occur every year in which water unfit for human consumption is supplied to thousands of households. Concerns have been raised about pesticides and gender-bending chemicals in the water supply, and traces of hundreds of substances can be found in tap water. Excess amounts can damage our health and the effects of many remain undiscovered. What is really in our water, and how can we make sure it is as safe as possible?
1. Chlorine
Chlorine is added to water to make it safe because its toxicity kills bacteria and microbes that might otherwise make you sick.
We need chlorine in our water to prevent the spread of illnesses through drinking water.
But that doesn’t mean you want to drink the chlorine.
A study published in Epidemiology examined 141,000 births in Norway. The researchers found that children who lived in places where chlorine was added to the tap water experienced a 14% higher risk of having birth defects. Urinary tract abnormalities doubled.
Although many people do not like the taste and smell of chlorine, water companies insist that it is safer than dechlorinated water which is left sitting out at room temperature.
In large amounts, chlorine can be irritating to the skin as well as an eye, nose and lung irritant when exposure to the air is encountered. Ingestion of chlorine can cause stomach discomfort.
So while chlorination is the widely accepted way of cleaning water, it should still be filtered out before you drink it, particularly if you live in an area where trihalomethanes (THMs), developed by the combination of chlorine and organic matter, tend to fluctuate.

2. Fluoride
Many cities add fluoride to their water as a public health measure. But not everyone needs the extra fluoride.
In many towns & cities fluoride is added to water. However, long-term studies on the effects of fluoride claim that it can cause a multitude of health issues including cancer (specifically bladder), gum disease, thyroid dysfunction, kidney and liver disease, genetic defects, endocrine imbalance, nervous system disorders and bone disease including fluorosis.
Fluoride, which can occur naturally in water, helps strengthen children's teeth as they develop. But too much can cause fluorosis - an unsightly permanent brown mottling of the teeth. Because many toothpastes and mouthwashes already contain fluoride - and as children often swallow toothpaste - some experts argue that fluoridation of water supplies could increase the number of people potentially at risk of fluorosis. But Dr Clive Waterman, lecturer in dentistry at the GKT Dental Institute, says: 'At the optimal level of one part per million, fluoride reduces the chance of tooth decay. If it is in the water, there is 100 pc patient compliance, and it will get into children's developing adult tooth buds, thus producing stronger adult teeth. 'There is no convincing argument against fluoridating the water as far as I am concerned.'

3. Lead
Lead is another contaminant that can show up in your tap water. Old pipes, cost-saving measures, and disregard for public health can all lead to lead levels above the legal limit.
If we’ve learned anything from the Flint water crisis in Michigan, lead-contaminated water can be devastating to community health. Moreover, investigations into the affair have revealed that you can’t trust your local government to care for your water.
4. Nitrate
Nitrate forms naturally when nitrogen is combined with oxygen. All living things need nitrate, and it’s found in your drinking water. In fact, nitrate forms naturally at the surface, particularly in groundwater and well water.
However, when nitrate reaches high levels, it can be dangerous, particularly for pregnant women and children.
High levels of nitrate can be caused by fertilizers, industrial waste, septic systems, poor well construction, and the improper disposal of waste.

5. Organisms
The bacteria M. Avium paratuberculosis (MAP), a cousin of the tuberculosis germ, is found in farm animals in which it causes chronic intestinal inflammation. This microscopic organism is believed by some experts to be a cause of Crohn's disease, the debilitating human gut disorder.
Professor John Hermon-Taylor, at St George's Hospital, London, says: 'MAP bacteria are tough, harsh and can survive easily in the environment. Perhaps as many as 15 pc of animals are harbouring the bug, and without doubt it is leaching into the water supply through run off from land into rivers and ground water.'
He is convinced that the MAP bacteria are highly resistant to chlorination, and could possibly be responsible for up to 8,000 new cases of Crohn's every year. 'The probability that MAP is being conveyed to people in domestic water supplies is very high,' he warns.
The Drinking Water Inspectorate is now taking Professor Hermon-Taylor's claims seriously.
Deputy Director Owen Hydes says: 'We believe that MAP is adequately removed by filtration and disinfection. However, because the issue is not clear-cut - there is some suggestion that it might colonise in pipework – we do want to do more research.
Cryptosporidium, another parasite resistant to chlorination, occasionally causes outbreaks of gastrointestinal illness - potentially fatal for the old or those with a weak immune system. But Cryptosporidium can be removed from water with ceramic filters and distillation systems.
Water-transmitted viruses can carry infectious diseases. Hepatitis A, norovirus, and rotavirus can all be transmitted through water. In most cases, these viruses enter water through animal or human waste as well.
These are the five most common types of organisms of water contamination. But what else can you find in your water?
E. coli,
Salmonella,
Shigella,
Enterovirus,

6. Heavy Metals
While trace elements of many metals (such as magnesium and selenium) are necessary for good health, some, like lead and aluminium, are not. Aluminium can occur naturally, but many water companies still treat water using aluminium sulphate. An accidental overdose of this chemical caused the infamous Camel ford water- contamination in 1988.

Both lead and aluminium poison the internal organs before settling in the brain and bones. Excess aluminium is widely believed to trigger Alzheimer's disease, which causes dementia as the brain is rapidly destroyed. Despite EU regulations limiting lead concentrations to 50 micrograms per litre (the equivalent of 250 grains of icing sugar), the Medical Research Council has concluded that there is no evidence of a safe level for lead. These and other metals with similar effects like silver, cadmium and mercury can be effectively removed by several methods including distillation.
These are the five most common types of water contamination. But what else can you find in your water?
Arsenic
Copper
Radon

7. Pesticides, Plastics and Pharmaceuticals
Since early studies highlighted how fish exposed to sewage effluents were changing sex, attention has been focused on the effects of these chemicals on human fertility, which has shown a marked decline over recent years. Though water companies operate under specific codes of practice to prevent plastic resins, cements and linings from leaching foreign substances into the supply, there have been several incidents where they have failed to prevent contamination.
Also under scrutiny are pesticides, which work their way into the ground and river systems from industry, agriculture and even households. These can mimic the action of hormones in the body, and are increasingly suspected as one factor lying behind the rising rates of hormone-related cancers in industrially developed nations.

Water is our life source
It is contemporary. It is compact. It fits in everywhere.
It is all you need for your convenient daily clean water intake.

Water is our life source. Water is what we need most and what we consume the most so that our bodies can fulfil their functions. So, we do not have the luxury of not consuming good water. Unfortunately, to reach clean and healthy water we are exposed to many harmful substances. The methods often used to reach clean and healthy water are not always as healthy or reliable as we thought.
The journey from water to the fountain is different. The water turns into surface waters in the form of tails as much as the tinsel to the fountain. At the same time, these waters flood the dam and the basin, collecting surface contaminants such as microbes, viruses, parasites, agrochemical remnants, and heavy metals. The collected water is passed through known chlorination, filtration and disinfection processes, water network pipes and taps come. There are studies showing that the chlorine used during this disinfection process has a negative effect on our health.
Coway filter system satisfies various water quality conditions with optimized filters. Includes RO filter to offer safer water by eliminating radioactive substances and heavy metals and Nano trap filter to remove 99.9% of viruses and bacteria without any effect on water flow.

The Dangers of Water Chlorination
Most people don’t give much thought to their drinking water other than its taste. Every time you’re drinking tap water, you may also be consuming chlorine.
However, as places like Flint, Michigan in the US showed, contaminants in drinking water and bathing water can have colossal negative effects on people. This is especially true for children, who can have their development severely stunted by these chemicals and metals.
Even if you don’t have lead in your water supply, there may still be sinister chemicals lurking in your water that you can’t see or taste. This is the case for water chlorination.
This isn’t the chlorine that cleans the public pool — this is chlorine in tap water that your family is drinking.
So what exactly is wrong with drinking chlorinated water? What can be done to prevent this?
That’s why our guide exists: to educate you on the dangers of water chlorination and what can be done to combat these chemicals in your water. Let’s jump in.
Why Is Our Water Chlorinated?
This process dates back to the early 1900’s, where chloride of lime was used to purify huge water supplies to prevent disease. Later on, a few scientists found out that chlorine gas could be used instead. Many purification facilities still use chlorine for purifying water that becomes drinking and bathing water.
Why Is Water Chlorination Dangerous?
Chlorine by itself isn’t so bad, but issues arise when chlorine combines with other compounds in the water. Chlorine can bind with other organic substances to create trihalomethanes, also referred to as THMs.
While this doesn’t sound so intimidating, THMs have been studied and shown to have tremendous adverse health effects. Studies have linked THMs to increased risk of miscarriage in pregnant women, artery damage, and certain types of cancer. Allergic reactions to this water are especially dangerous.
Drinking the chlorinated water isn’t the only risk. If people take a hot shower with chlorinated water, the steam can contain THMs too, meaning that you’re inhaling them directly. This has been shown to cause irritation in the skin, eyes, and scalp. There’s also evidence linking THMs in steam to a weakened immune system.
There are also risks involved with washing dishes in chlorinated water and using this water in plants and animals. If you have pets, water chlorination can be potentially deadly.
What Can Be Done
Luckily, there are measures families can take to protect themselves.
First and foremost, bottled water can be used for drinking and cooking. This is expensive, though, and causes a large amount of waste without solving the problem of bathing.
One well-tested approach is to use a reverse osmosis filtration system. This not only filters out harmful chemicals but also improves the taste and feel of water. These can be installed directly at taps and are inexpensive to maintain.

Hard & Soft Water
Calcium and magnesium make water hard. Levels of hardness vary naturally throughout the country. But there is an increasing body of evidence suggesting that the higher levels of these minerals in hard water may protect arteries from heart disease.
However, one study of primary school children in Nottingham suggested that these minerals may also irritate sensitive skin. Dr Nick McNally, who led the study, suggested that calcium deposits in water might trigger eczema and that sufferers might find soft water less irritating.
Artificially softened water is increasingly popular. The selling points of softening systems are that soaps lather more easily, and calcium deposits are reduced, protecting pipes from furring. However, water softened using salt is not good for drinking and is especially dangerous for babies and elderly people.

Why a Water Filtration System is Important
Clean water is essential for life. We need it to drink. It’s essential for cooking. And we couldn’t clean without water. Without clean water, we would struggle to maintain our health.
Many of us are lucky enough to have access to a source of relatively clean water. But just because our water is considered to be suitable for consumption by your city, doesn’t mean it’s clean enough to protect your home or your health.
In fact, water filtration is essential for remaining in control of what chemicals are able to cross over from your water into your home.

10 Reasons To Use A Water Purification System
More economical than bottled water: Water filters are good on average for 3,000 litres* before you need to change the filter, which works out to just 6 pence a change. Compare this to Highland Spring, the UK's biggest selling brand of bottled water, at 82 pence for 750ml** or even Tesco own brand at 38 pence for 500ml** - and it is clear that drinking highly filtered tap water could save you thousands of pounds whilst reaping the benefits of healthy, life giving water... rather than water that has been sitting in a plastic bottle in a warehouse for who knows how long. (*please check with each brand as lifetimes can vary from product to product; **prices correct at time of writing this article, prices may vary).
1. A home water purification system will prevent more than 2100 water contaminants that may be present in tap water reaching your tap.
2. A whole house water purification system purifies water efficiently and cost-effectively. It is also the only way to ensure that pure water is produced from every water source in the home. Whether you are washing, cooking, watering your plants, you are no longer limited to the amount of pure water you can use.
3. Water purifying systems can reduce the risk of medical conditions such as bladder cancer, colon cancer and rectal cancer by removing chlorine and nasty bacteria in drinking water. Drinking pure water generally protects the body from disease that may damage health.
4. Pure water can benefit skin allergies as chlorine and other volatile organic chemicals which irritate the skin will be removed by the filter.
5. A house filter will benefit children as pure water is the best way to develop healthy immune systems. Using pure water for cooking as well as drinking will ensure that children are receiving the healthiest water to aid their mental and physical development.
6. Purchasing a home water purification system in the long-run will be more cost-effective than buying bottled water. The filter will guarantee protection against dangerous water contaminants at your convenience, in your own home.
7. Pure water can benefit pregnant women as drinking un-clean water can lead to several birth defects.
8. A whole house water purification system eliminates the risk of showering and drinking contaminated water. This will reduce the risk of allergies due to cleaner air circulating in the home.
9. Water purification systems saves time. You no longer have to boil water, wait for slow purification jugs to purify water or lug water bottles back from the shops.
10. Water purification systems are passive, meaning they require no electricity to filter the water. The only routine maintenance required is periodic replacement of the filtration element.
Benefits of a Water Filtration System
Your water may contain any number of potentially harmful chemicals or organisms. We’re not saying that to scare you. After all, most tap water is treated and safe to drink.
But there are more benefits to a water filtration system than clearing those last few impurities from your water.
1. It protects the environment.
Having access to safe water at all times means you don’t need to worry about buying bottles of water on a regular basis.
If we buy fewer bottles of water, we can reduce the number of plastic bottles that end up in landfills.
2. Water filtration saves money.
If you don’t need to buy water every week, you can rule out an additional bill.
Filtration systems also reduce plumbing bills because the heavy metals and chemicals that damage your pipes are filtered out.
3. It protects you from disasters.
Water can be contaminated from any number of sources. Burst sewer lines, dumping, and run-off can all result in a loss of access to clean water. Having a filtration system protects your home from losing access to water.
4. You need less soap.
Without the added chemicals and natural impurities, your water becomes softer. Softer water doesn’t leave the minerals behind that counteract the properties of soap.
So, you’ll need to purchase less soap for the shower which saves you money and a trip to the shops.
5. Health benefits
Water is vital to every cell and organ in the human body, keeping us hydrated, healthy and fit. At Monso, we believe that there is nothing more important than your health and that is why our household water purification systems give you clean fresh water as close to pure as nature intended.
Hard water on skin can be especially tough for those with eczema. The Eczema Society has reported that skin conditions are more prevalent for those living in hard water areas, while purified water has benefits on skin that help towards improving the condition dramatically. There are scientific studies which show that hard water on skin is a risk factor for those prone to eczema.

Water Filtration Systems Make Life Better
Protecting your water is a kin to protecting your health. Water is the giver of life, and unfortunately, it’s something you often need to do yourself.
A water filtration system is an essential part of protecting your water by removing extra impurities or even protecting you from a crisis should your water source be contaminated.
